Stone is a durable and ecological material, as well as being the best acoustic and thermal insulator.
There is no stone like it, so this material looks a lot like ourselves. It has a very long life cycle, it is a very abundant resource on the planet and it is very versatile, because it has a place in all decorative styles.
In addition, each stone project has its own personality and adds value to homes built in the old way or to rooms with coatings in this finish. Stone walls have as many decorative options, as benefits, the key is knowing where and how to use them.
THE BEST INSULATION
Natural stone has many advantages, but its insulating properties stand out to attenuate external sounds and, above all, maintain the temperature inside the house. In this bedroom, the Marés block wall, typical of Menorca, an island closely aligned with efficient energy saving systems, has been respected.
The textures are endless, so it is always a pleasure to gently run your fingers over a stone wall. Another point in favor is that this organic material does not produce any allergies or is toxic, so it is perfect for people who suffer from problems in the respiratory system, because as it is not porous it prevents moisture and the accumulation of bacteria.
MINERAL ORIGIN
The stone walls bring us back to the beauty of small things and nature. In this sense, the wabi sabi decorative style is aligned with the original walls of this house decorated by the interior designer Alessandro Negri.
ECOLOGICAL COMMITMENT
Recycling is likely to originate from stone; the remains of collapsed walls or abandoned houses are still used today for rustic constructions. Maintenance is very simple and does not pollute, so it can be considered a sustainable and eco-friendly material. This proposal by interior designer Carmen Carretero meets these premises.
IN EQUILIBRIUM
A wood-beamed ceiling, industrial-style lamps, stone walls, natural fiber rugs, and a custom-built peninsula. This project by the architect Glòria Duran Torrellas is a manual of harmony. If you like islands to separate environments in the kitchen there are many solutions to your liking.
AUTHENTICITY
Nothing is accidental, because everything adds up. That’s what shoe designer Úrsula Mascaró must have thought when she found her refuge in Menorca. It has kept the architecture in the peasant style of Menorca, with a very rustic concept attached to the Mediterranean. The main cladding is whitewashed stone , and in this corner a bench has been created, almost stolen from the original structure.
GOOD INVESTMENT
The energy saving of stone is proven, although there are many options to create a sustainable home. In addition to this benefit, it is a fireproof material, so it has a very high resistance to fire and slows down its spread. Durability is another property, so maintenance costs are reduced over the years. This project is by interior designer Sofía Zayas respected the exterior cover of the rural accommodation Casa Tomasa (Madrid).
ALSO SOPHISTICATED
The powder pink plinth lightens the stone cladding of the superb fireplace. This reading corner at the Finca La Salud hotel in Gran Canaria is the work of the architects Juan Espino and Pilar Banquieri.
VERY RESISTANT
Marble is known for its hardness, but also for the great variety of colors and textures it presents. Its use is common in floor and wall coverings, as well as in countertops, kitchen and bathroom; although it seems that the trend of using it in the living room in the form of exclusive pieces or furniture is gaining strength. The bathroom renovation carried out by Andrea Diego and Vanesa Vergara, from IN56 Interiorismo, is worthwhile. There are many options to create environments with marble, always with style and good taste.
TIMELESS
The exposed stone walls are a long-term bet. It is a decision that goes beyond the immediate and seeks an interior design with perspective and that withstands well the passage of the years. For this reason, the decoration has to be neutral, both in terms of color and in the selection of furniture, like this work by Mireia Pla Studio.
