In a decorative perspective of “do it yourself” you can save on the cost of a decorator, or even on the cost of the labor they would hire to give a new decoration to the house. If you feel like it’s time to “get your hands dirty”, here are some simple tips to put into practice, but that can give your home a new look.
GIVE NEW LIFE TO KITCHEN FURNITURE
One of the most striking elements in the kitchen are the kitchen cabinets. So by remodeling them, they will breathe new life into the kitchen. What to do? Consider the most suitable option for your space: painting the cabinets, lacquering them or installing new doors.
CHANGE THE HANDLES
This measure is simply easy and very effective to give a new look to kitchen cabinets, or common furniture, in an accessible and fast way. There are places that sell very interesting and inexpensive knobs like IKEA or Zara Home. They can replace wooden or plastic knobs, with porcelain, stainless steel, vintage ones, in short, whatever suits what they want to achieve.
CHANGE THE LIGHTING
Side or directed light is the best option for placing in the home. The typical single ceiling lamp per room is not a pleasant light. In the kitchen, opt for directed lighting: replace the only ceiling lamp with lighting in a row with several spots pointed, not downwards, but towards the places in the kitchen that you want to illuminate. In the rest of the house, instead of having a ceiling light, choose to place floor lamps in different places, as the light is much more welcoming and pleasant.
NEW HEADBOARD
Upholstering the headboard with fabric is simple and really changes a room. You just need to cover the headboard with foam padding on top and cover it with fabric or leather of your choice. They can add silver studs for a vintage look.
REPLACE THE TILE FLOOR WITH FLOATING FLOOR
A wooden floor is much more welcoming than a tiled floor. Replace the tiled floor of the house with a floating floor. This option is very economical, as there are floating floors at very affordable prices. Then you will have to assemble it. Don’t forget to buy skirtings for the junction of the doors and walls to make the necessary finishing touches.
REPLACE THE FAUCETS
If the faucets at home are in need of a new life, then replace them with new ones. This measure will give the bathroom and kitchen a breath of fresh air.
PUT NEW PUTTY ON THE TILE JOINTS
Over time, the joints that join the tiles get darker, and some with mold. Buy putty to restore these joints (it’s very affordable for sale on any large surface) and apply. It will appear that they have placed new tiles without actually having done so.
PUT PANELING ON THE WALLS
Remember the old houses that had elegant and intricate lower details in plaster or wood decorating the walls? Well, a pre-made paneling does exactly the same effect, at a much lower cost. Basically you just need to buy a paneling with the measures that fit the wall you want to decorate, baseboard and trim. Then it is necessary to glue it or nail it to the wall, and voila, walls with new life.
PAINT
This is the easiest way of decorating to consider when thinking about redecorating your home. And with good reason, because in reality it is the measurement that makes big changes in a real instant. Painting a room in the house in a different color will give the place new life. Play with color, paint a wall just to accent a piece of furniture, or give your kitchen a clean look. Don’t forget that there is paint to paint tiles and even the floor. So get to work, there is a lot that can be done at home.
