We often think that a room is too small and that there is no solution to make it more comfortable and spacious. However, with these tips, you will have the illusion of much more space in your home.
Resist the urge to invest in a miniature
Don’t be afraid to place full-sized fittings in small spaces. When you put tiny chattels in a small area, the room will look smaller. Play with the scale. You can even use space wisely to help the eye move around the room.
Organize the “rooms”
Use rugs to designate the space. This is especially useful in studios or open floor plans. Also, use a large rug for your living space and a long one to create an entrance. Textiles add richness to space while providing creative freedom.
Check visual balance
Count on creative styling to compensate for any awkward settings. In small areas, we often have to lose optimal spatial planning to fit what we need. Also, strategically place a plant next to your sofa that’s slightly off-center in the room so your eyes won’t notice, or place the artwork below what you would normally do to add visual weight where needed.
Where there is a window, add a mirror
Mirrors create the illusion of a larger space. So if you can, put a mirror in front of a window. This will reflect the outside/outside and make your space look bigger.
Close a door
Invest in multipurpose parts. Maybe you can find a coffee table or bench with hidden storage inside or a sideboard with doors that will hide items you don’t want to see while still placing your favorite decorative items and books on top for display.
Add height
Use wall space as you may not have much room to work. Therefore, shelves can contain books, records, ceramics, etc. So get creative with it!
Taller windows
If you have curtains, hang them from the ceiling, not the top of the window. This will produce the dream of higher ceilings. In extension, you can further use curtains to create doors and soften the space.
Make an intentional blank
Devise some uninterested place on the banks. If you hold a lot of art to illustrate, spacing the pieces around the room is the best choice. Gallery walls in small spaces can make rooms feel cramped and cluttered. So, put some pieces together on a wall and then leave the rest of the wall bare. This will enable the eye to float through space.
Don’t be in a hurry
Finally, stay true to yourself. Don’t let the lack of space make you feel like you need to sacrifice your personal style. You want your space to be like you, in addition to being practical and comfortable. Sometimes you need to let go of all the rules. So, have fun with the project and take your time to find out how you want each area to work so that every square meter is used
