Two tones, one yellow and one gray, were announced this week by Pantone as a trend for next year. If yellow and gray are already widely used in decoration, we can expect to see them even more next year. That’s because Pantone, the world’s leading color company, this week announced two colors for 2021: Illuminating and Ultimate Gray. They are, respectively, a vibrant and cheerful yellow, and an emblematic and sober gray. According to the company, these colors convey a sense of strength and hope to the environment. For the architect Marina Carvalho, mixing the elegance of gray with the personality of yellow results in a classic and practically error-free combination.
Sharing the same thinking, the architect Pati Cillo claims that this is a “light and balanced duo” and suggests using gray as the basis of the environment — on floors and walls — and yellow in prominent points, such as objects and small furniture.
Below, we’ve separated a series of projects for you to get inspired and copy now!
1- Gray and Yellow Kitchen
The contrast of gray and yellow made the kitchen relaxed in just the right measure. The project by architect Lucilla Mesquita invested in a more neutral base in which yellow played a leading role in the composition.
2- Yellow Counertops
Here, we can see that the benches had bright yellow in practically the entire structure. Even so, the decoration was not overloaded thanks to the integration of gray present in the appliances and countertops in the apartment.
3- Gray Sofa with Side Table
With a different proposal, following a more fun and contemporary line, the project of the Figa Arquitetura office mixed a gray sofa with a side table of modern design and vibrant color. Furthermore, the paintings on the wall reaffirm this style and create harmony in the space.
4- Lego Theme
In the bedroom, the specialists from Figa Arquitetura made a combination of cabinets using the lego theme, and included Pantone’s colors to bring modernity to the project.
5- Sobe Room Decor
On the other hand, if you’re looking for a more sober room decor, here’s a reference to a project inspired by contemporary architecture, and yellow appears discreetly in a painting, in the corner. Highlight for the Urban headboard in gray by Sierra Móveis.
6- Bold Office
A bold proposal using the colors of 2021 combined with other elements, textures and tones was that of Altera Arquitetura. The office created a very innovative hall design that mixes grey, yellow, black, red, blue and white.
The tip is to do everything in a balanced way, respecting the individual colors and textures, but also the whole as a whole. The result was an environment full of personality.
7- Lemon Print Tiles
Going against the first kitchen example shown in this post — in which yellow stood out over gray — here we have an environment in which gray composed the base and yellow only appears on the Sicilian lemon print tiles, giving lightness and balance in the decoration.
8- Bathroom Decor
Can you innovate in bathroom decor? Of course yes! Proof of this is the project by architect Marina Carvalho, in which yellow was highlighted in the environment, while gray and white were more in the background.
9- Bright Yellow in Room
Despite being a vibrant color, it is possible to strategically include bright yellow in the room to add more depth without sacrificing comfort.
10- Gray Floor
The gray floor – included in the Korman Arquitetos project – brings warmth and sobriety, creating a perfect harmony with the other colors of the environment.
But what if I don’t like yellow? Calm! You can still assemble a sophisticated gray composition and out of the obvious. The project by architects Juliana Sica and Bruno Isaac for Mont Blanc is a practical example of reconciling color with a super high and beautiful marbled texture. The result could not be different: a modern and elegant combination.
