Living a greener life involves embracing countless everyday gestures such as recycling, always choosing recycled objects and using fewer resources, thus saving the planet. And an eco-friendly lifestyle is also about how we decorate our homes – find out how to become a more eco-friendly decorator without compromising the good taste of your home. Make your home and the world a more beautiful place to live!
Organic Textiles
Decorating in a greener way also involves carefully reading the labels of all the textiles that warm and decorate our homes. Make sure you always choose towels, sheets, blankets, blankets, blinds and rugs made exclusively from organic and/or recycled materials, such as cotton, wool, linen and bamboo; or natural fibers such as sisal, seagrass or coconut fiber. Mattresses can also be eco-friendly, especially if you choose models made of wool or natural latex.
Avoid Plastic
Our houses are filled with PVC objects – a plastic that is not biodegradable and that recent studies point to the fact that they emit some substances that are harmful to health. Whenever you can, avoid plastic, namely, bath curtains, kitchen utensils, chairs, decorative and organizational objects. A good alternative, more environmentally friendly is, without a doubt, melamine, which is a recycled plastic.
Ecological walls
The paints traditionally used to paint walls are unfortunately filled with vapors and chemicals that are harmful to health and the environment. Therefore, when painting, always choose ecological paints, that is, those that are recycled, produced from milk and biodegradable. If you choose wallpaper, the care is the same – recycled paper always!
Green floor
The choice of floor covering can also be based on green decor – always opt for any type of recycled or ecologically sustainable wood, such as eucalyptus and bamboo, but also polished concrete, stone, linoleum, cork and recycled glass tiles… these they are materials produced with natural and renewable resources.
Natural light
One of the most important gestures of living green is to make the most of natural light. As far as artificial lighting is concerned, if you haven’t already done so, it’s high time to change all traditional light bulbs to economical light bulbs. What would a beautiful decoration be without lighted candles? In this regard, always prefer soy candles which are by far the most environmentally friendly.
Breath of fresh air
Green is life and life is flowers, so use and abuse the floral decoration – in addition to being a decorative note of great beauty, flowers and plants filter the air and refresh the environment in a natural way and better than any air freshener artificial. Fill the house with gerberas, ferns, palms, chlorophytes, philodendrons… and take a deep breath! If you have the space, plant a garden and enjoy a greener life outdoors and in communion with Mother Nature.
Decorate and recycle
Before throwing something away, think about whether this object would gain another life painted in a new color or with different handles; if it can be used in another room in the house or if it can be used by a friend or family member. Use this same reasoning whenever you think about buying something new for the home, because sometimes we can give a completely new, beautiful and functional life to older things. Alternatively, you can also take advantage of flea markets and antiques to find and reuse a more special vintage piece – this is called recycling in style!
Environmentally friendly design
If you like to decorate and are looking for a greener way to do it, then support the green movement that designers around the world have already dedicated themselves to. Today it is not difficult to find unique and spectacular design objects, created entirely with recycled products: recycled glasses from old windshields, furniture and decorative pieces in cork from recycled stoppers, poufs created from recycled tires, curtains and cushions in bamboo. The green design is here to stay!
