Have you heard of vinyl decoration? Surely yes, but if you haven’t, we guarantee that you have seen them in different places. Vinyl is a plastic material made from PVC, waterproof, flexible and lightweight, ideal for modifying and improving the appearance of a wide variety of surfaces, both indoors and outdoors. The main advantage that vinyl has is that it is removable. It is as easy to put on as it is to take off, so if you get bored with a design or if after a while it doesn’t convince you, you can always remove it and go back to the original surface.
It is a perfect solution to not spend a lot of money giving a new look to your house or if you are not clear about making definitive changes. There are also vinyls for everything: for walls, for floors, for windows, textiles, furniture there is no excuse to make a change at home!

Types of vinyls
There is no single type of vinyl, and the choice of one or the other will depend on your personal tastes and, above all, the use that you are going to give it … Be careful with the options!
1- Self-adhesive vinyls
They are surely the most famous and the ones you have seen the most, and they are the most used vinyls in decoration. They work as a high-adhesion sticker so there’s no need to fear that they’ll come off easily and, being thin, light, flexible and easily cuttable, they can adapt to the most difficult surfaces such as corners, curves or cuts. . There are matte and glossy … and in a thousand different designs!
2- Soap and water vinyls
They get this name because they need soap and water to adhere to surfaces. They resist prolonged exposure to the sun, inclement weather and sudden changes in temperature very well, so they are great to place outdoors.
3- Electrostatic vinyls
Electrostatic vinyls, meanwhile, are placed through static electricity. This means that they do not need any type of adhesive to adhere, they do so through electrostatic charge. They are especially suitable for smooth surfaces of any type of material and are easily removed without generating any residue. They are used very frequently on glass, as for example, in the case of temporary promotions in commercial windows.

Electrostatic vinyl for home privacy
Another idea if what you want to achieve is some privacy at home is this vinyl. It is a colorless sheet but it breaks down the colors, leaving a very beautiful iridescent and shiny effect. Avoid unwanted glances but not the entry of light, which is one of the things that worries the most when putting any adhesive on the windows.
15- Place and remove vinyls
The placement of the vinyls is very simple but requires attention in the process. Whenever you are going to put a vinyl, you have to make sure that the surface is completely clean. We advise you to clean the surface with a dry cloth to remove traces of dust and, as far as possible, to avoid cleaners with ammonia or bleach as these give off gases that can favor the appearance of bubbles on the vinyl.
Still, there may be small bubbles left once in, but don’t panic! The safest thing is that these are reabsorbed on their own (if they are small). If that does not happen, you can also apply hot air with a dryer (at the minimum temperature) while smoothing the bubbles with a spatula or by hand.
To remove the vinyl you will have it very simple if it is an electrostatic vinyl or one of soap and water. However, adhesive vinyls require a bit more technique. To be able to remove them easily, the most important thing is to have them installed correctly, on a clean surface and without stains to which they can stick.
The removal process consists of making a small cut with a cutter on the vinyl and peeling off the sheet little by little. If it is done very roughly, it can lift the paint or surface where it is stuck, in addition to leaving much more adhesive residue. You can also help in this process by applying heat with a hair dryer (although without the heat being too high, as it could damage the surface).
Once the vinyl is removed, if any adhesive residue remains, you can help yourself with a little vinegar, vegetable or baby oil, or a solvent to remove them completely. And ready!
